7015 1959-07-31 Hemerdon Bank

7015 1959-07-31 Hemerdon Bank

GWR Castle 4-6-0 No 7015 Carn Brea Castle on the up 'Cornishman' climbing Hemerdon on 31 July 1959.

Peter kerslake says "This was my very favourite spot on my numerous visits to Hemerdon a few years earlier than this picture by the late Peter Gray, the beginning of Chaddle Wood and getting towards the last stretch to the summit.
Despite being over the eight coach limit for an unassisted "Castle" between Plymouth and Newton Abbot 7015 has not the slightest steam leak and no masssive eruptions from its chimney, so very different to the many photographs of mine here a few years earlier!
I very much suspect that 7015 has come up through Plymouth from Penzance, possibly running through to Bristol but I never could understand these "Cornishman" workings!"
