GWR Castle 4-6-0 No 5037 Monmouth Castle with the 11.45am Paddington-Worcester in Sonning cutting on 1 August 1959.
Peter Kerslake says "Showing signs of a recent visit to a works, probably its own at Worcester, 5037 nears Reading, taking the down fast road, the cutting's hedges neatly trimmed at about the spot where the authorities at one time built a wooden platform for the use of cameramen, one of whom for many years had been Maurice Earley.
Built in May 1935 and initially allocated to Old Oak Common 5037 was to spend time at Worcester, Old Oak Common again, Neath and Llanelly and finally at Bristol St.Philips Marsh (Bath Road having closed to steam) in October 1963, being withdrawn in March 1964."
