GWR Castle class 4-6-0 No 5097 Sarum Castle passes Dawlish with an up express on September 8, 1955. Reporting number 263 was carried by the 8.0am Plymouth to Crewe.

Peter Kerslake says " Shrewsbury's 5097 was on a 'West to North' working .These were shared between Shrewsbury and Newton Abbot, with engines and crews working between Newton Abbot and Shrewsbury, out one day and back the next, with 'Castles' and 'Counties' being the usual forms of motive power".
