GWR Castle class 4-6-0 No 7029 Clun Castle with the LCGB North and West rail tour at Newport on 21 June, 1964 at Maindee North Junction. By 1964 when this photo was taken, Newport panel had taken over control of that area so the layout would have been largely similar to the one that existed in 1990, with the route the train is on running parallel to the lines coming in from the West, the actual joining being a couple of miles on. When the area was controlled by mechanical signalboxes, the two arms of the triangle met here.
