GWR Castle 4-6-0 No. 5024 Carew Castle in the 1950s with the Down Torbay Express nearing its destination just after leaving the main line at Aller Junction.
Peter Kerslake says "Looking its very best Newton Abbot's 5024 "Carew Castle" has joined the Kingswear line at Aller Junction on the twelve noon from Paddington, the down "Tobay Express", this duty worked by both Newton Abbot and Old Oak Common and regularly headed by one of the "Castles" housed at each depot.
Allocated to Newton Abbot from being newly built in April 1934 this engine later spent time at Bristol Bath Road but came backto Newton Abbot in the mid 'fifties, from where it was finally condemned in May of 1962."
