GWR Castle class 4-6-0 No 5032 Usk Castle approaches Chester General with a Paddington to Birkenhead Down express in c1951. It will be heading for either platform 2 or 3 in the Mold wing of Chester General. Here the 'Castle' will detach and either an LMS 'Crab' or a 'Stainer' 2-6-4T will come on to the rear ready to take the train onto Birkenhead.

Note how shiny the lines to the carriage sidings are where J.D Mills in standing, he should have had a line pass and a posibly a look-out to get this and other shots.
