4080 1953-09-19 Torquay
GWR Castle 4-6-0 No 4080 Powderham Castle with an up express (515) departing from Torquay on 19 September 1953. Note that the carriage destination boards have been reversed.
Peter Kerslake says " 4080 enjoyed an extended life time following its being fitted with a double chimney, mechanical lubrication and other refinements applied to a number of "Castles" during their later lives which gave the engines so treated a new lease of life for a number of years.
Allocated from new in March of 1924 to Old Oak Common, in company with ten other "Castles" built from late 1923 to early 1924 "Powderham Castle" later saw service from Bristol Bath Road and Cardiff's Canton and East Dock depots before ending its days at Southall in August of 1964."
