70039 1961c Kings Cross-ROneg-1612-602
An " across the tracks " shot of 70039 , " Sir Christopher Wren " , one of the first three of her class to have been transferred away from former Great Eastern metals at Norwich in December of 1960 to their new home at Immingham on the former Great Northern Section of the Eastern Region , with a total of seven " Britannias " eventually finding themselves at Immingham by the autumn of 1961.
The crews at Immingham liked them , as had those at Norwich and Stratford almost ten years earlier , finding them well suited to working the Cleethorpes and Grimsby fast passenger rosters to and from Kings Cross as seen here, as well as on fitted freights and the like.
By the end of 1963 , however , the Immingham " Britannias " had all been destined for transfer to the Midland Region where their later years saw them neglected and run down in appearance and mechanical condition , a far cry from their earlier times on the Western and Eastern Regions.
