Looking well turned out in this view and heading an impressive looking express parcels service 70022 " Tornado " had , in common with all her class , ended up on the Midland Region following transfer firstly to Carlisle Kingmoor in September of 1961 from her previous home at Cardiff Canton
Before going to Canton in December of 1956 " Tornado " had the distinction of being Newton Abbot's only " Britannia " but the reasoning behind the decision by those in authority to allocate just this one of the class to Newton Abbot from April of 1952 has been lost with the passage of time .
Whilst at Newton Abbot " Tornado " had enjoyed a relatively quiet life mainly working the easy route between Kingswear and Bristol Temple Meads in both directions on the daily " Devonian " , with Newton Abbot's "Castles " taking the more demanding duties from the Westcountry to both Paddington and Shrewsbury .
This splendid image portrays " Tornado " in her final year in service as sadly she was condemned from Kingmoor in company with many of her sisters in the December of 1967 .
