Newly transferred to 12A Carlisle 70016 " Ariel " is in a pretty poor external condition , a far cry from happier times when , in 1953 she eventually reached her designated and intended home at Plymouth's Laira Depot after being diverted from being newly built in 1951 to Holbeck and Stratford .
Whilst at Laira " Ariel " worked regularly down to Penzance in addition to duties to Paddington but as the Diesels took over she , and her sisters at Laira , Newton Abbot and Old Oak Common were all added to the five already at Cardiff Canton before being sent to Carlisle in September of 1961 .
If this view is from after October of 1964 then " Ariel" would have been allocated to Carlisle Kingmoor , from where she was withdrawn in August of 1967
