Something of a mystery here , but doubtless there is an explanation as to how former Southern Region 70004 " Willliam Shakespeare " has found its way to Eastleigh some eight years after going to the Midland Region , being allocated at the date of this view to Stockport Edgeley , to where it had gone in May of the previous year.
Perhaps this was an Enthusiasts ' Special working , bringing 70004 , associated in its early years with the celebrated Dover Boat Trains , back to " home territory " .
The celebrated " William Shakespeare " nameplates have long since been removed , and 70004 was condemned from Carlisle Kingmoor , its final Depot , in December of 1967.
Yes , it was a LCGB Railtour which brought " William Shakespeare " back to its former Southern Region territory this day....mystery solved !
