The famous, iconic gas holders still (2022) overshadow the approach to St. Pancras Station. Waiting for their next turns of duty in the first decade of the 20th century, are a pair of Samuel Johnson's elegant designs for the Midland Railway. The lovely 'Spinner' 4-2-2 No. 124 is buffered up to a '2P' 4-4-0 No. 2188. 124 was built at Derby in Feb. 1899 and withdrawn in Aug. 1926 as LMS No. 678. Whilst 2188 is a Sharp Stewart product of May 1892 and was withdrawn in Dec. 1948 still bearing LMS livery as No. 408.
