LNER A3 Pacific No 2747 Coronach, fitted with a cut-away smokebox in an experiment to improve smoke lifting, climbs away from Grantham at Saltersford crossing with a Leeds to Kings Cross express on September 3, 1932. This was a public footpath crossing.

The signal is the motor-operated distant of an Automatic Block Section (ABS) on the Up Main Line; the installation of the ABS enabled the closure of Saltersford signal box on 30th April 1932.
