LNER Gresley 'A3' class 4-6-2 No. 2580 'Shotover'. Built by NBL of Glasgow in Nov. 1924 and withdrawn in Oct. 1962 as BR No. 60081. This is an interesting photograph taken at the north end of York Station in 1928. It features 'Shotover' newly-converted (at Darlington Works) to an 'A3' with a down express. The bufferbeam reveals that Darlington has classified the loco not as 'A3' but as '4-6-2' in the same way as it classified the NER Raven 4-6-2s! The Westinghouse pump was removed in March 1934.
