60103 1961-06 Doncaster
The group of young enthusiasts on the far platform look pleased to see " Flying Scotsman " running into Doncaster in this 1961 image , the year when the British Transport Commission published its list of locomotives which would escape the cutters' torches , although to the dismay of the many enthusiats of the day there was no mention of an " A3 " being included in that list .
Withdrawal of a number of the class had begun by the following year , and " Flying Scotsman " worked her last run in B.R. revenue earning service , the 1.15.p.m. departure from Kings Cross to here at Doncaster on the 14th . January , 1963 , being officially condemned the next day although its future had by then been secured thanks to the intervention of Alan Peglar .
