2578 1930s York MPD

2578 1930s York MPD

A typical 1930s scene in the Yard at York North (Leeman Road) MPD sees smart Gresley 'A3' 4-6-2 No. 2578 'Bayardo' fully coaled and watered and the crew are boarding, ready to return the locomotive to its next duty. Note the broken 'windjabber' or 'capuchon' chimney on the 'Q6' in the adjacent road! LNER 2578 was built by NBL of Glasgow in Oct. 1924 and was withdrawn in Sept. 1961 as BR No. 60078.
