The art of railway locomotive portraiture was practiced from the earliest days of photography both by 'official' and amateur exponents. Most photographs of this type are somewhat uninspiring, but occasionally a true gem is discovered amongst the rhinestones! Here is one such of 'St. Simon' in sparkling and magnificent ex-works condition taken by the late Les Perrin at Grantham in October 1962.
