Westward TV Exhibition train 1961c Old Oak Common-ROneg-1512-165-1
Exhibition train made up from retired GWR Siphon G parcels vehicles which were gutted internally, plated over externally and fitted out for each hiring. It appears that work is ongoing to re-fit these vehicles for the Westward Television Exhibition train as a door is open, boarding is leaning against the nearest vehicle and there are lights hung externally on the coaches making them out of gauge so this could be for a special event in, or near to, the carriage shed. The majority of the vehicles used on such trains were of Ex LMS origin with later BR built Mark 1’s being substituted. By the 1970s this operation was based on Salisbury yard and spare vehicles could always be found there. The piece of apparatus in front is a GWR water bowser used to maintain carriage stock toilets and usually seen at main line stations.
