54505 1960-08-19 Carstairs

54505 was a 64D (later 66E from May 1960 as seen here) all her BR life. Latterly relegated from even stopping passenger duties they were mostly used on fitted freight work, or which there was plenty on the upper stretches of the WCML. Finally completely worn out, its duties came to an end in early April 1961 although how much use it had in the final months is open to debate. Fairburn Tank 42204 stands in front of the veteran, used on Beattock banking turns as well as local passenger duties.
