54505 1955-06 Carstairs

54505 1955-06 Carstairs

Ex-Caledonian Railway Pickersgill '72' class 4-4-0 No. 54505. Built by NBL of Glasgow in December 1922 as CR No. 94 and withdrawn in April 1961.

William Pickersgill's '72' class totalled 32 and were being delivered in the amazing Caledonian sky blue livery right up to the last month before amalgamation with the LMS. At Carstairs station in June 1955, 54505's condition is a long way removed from those heady days. Amongst her menial duties is a short engineer's train including what appears to be an ex-LYR coach in use as a mess van, but nonetheless she still retains her former elegance.
