9514 1927 Eastfield MPD

9514 1927 Eastfield MPD

Ex-North British Railway Reid 'L' (LNER 'C16') class 4-4-2 Tank No. 9514. Built by NBL of Glasgow in March 1921 as NBR No. 514 and withdrawn in January 1953 as BR No. 67500.

Looking in fine fettle outside Glasgow's Eastfield MPD, this 1927 portrait depicts an 'Atlantic' tank, a type that found favour with most pre-grouping railways. With their smokebox wingplates and clean lines the 'C16s' were amongst the most elegant. 9514's destination board shows for 'Balloch' a small town still rail served, located on the southern tip of Loch Lomond.
