GER 1000 1915-01 Stratford Works

GER 1000 1915-01 Stratford Works

Great Eastern Railway A.J. Hill 'L77' (LNER 'N7') class 0-6-2 Tank No. 1000. Built at Stratford in January 1915 and withdrawn in February 1959 as BR No. 69600.

A very successful design of 134 locomotives by the somewhat unsung Alfred John Hill, the last CME of the GER. It is notable that the LNER continued to build 122 more of the class thirteen years after the dozen GER liveried locomotives appeared from Stratford. Here is the class prototype at Stratford Works in a fine January 1915 'official' photograph. 69621 (LNER 7999) built at Stratford in 1924 has been preserved.
