Alfred Hill was the last CME for the Great Eastern Railway and his excellent designs of both tender and tank locomotives have often been overlooked in the shadow of Sir Nigel Gresley. This ex-works portrait of 'N7' 0-6-2 Tank 69696 at Stratford MPD illustrates a class that was considered to be so effective, that in addition to the dozen GER examples, 122 more were built by the LNER after the grouping! This photo was taken on Sunday 19th April 1959.
