78xx 1964c Talerddig

The Manor still has the small tender which might help identify it.

Our brave cameraman has ventured far off the beaten track here in the Cambrian mountains to record this " Manor " on Talerddig bank , but sadly we don't know which way the train is heading on this single line section .
The summit of Talerddig bank is some seven hundred feet above sea level in a cutting of 120 feet in depth , and services heading westwards to Machynlleth and the coast at Aberystwyth hava lengthy but less steep climb to the summit as those heading eastwards to Welshpool and Shrewsbury which are faced with a three mile section with a 1 in 52 grade .
Time was running out for the remaining Cambrian " Manors " at the date of this view as the three last members of the class to work the Cambrian lines , namely 7802 , 7812 and 7820 all ended up at Shrewsbury M.P.D. in 1965 , having been replaced by Standard Class Fours ,but which on this is must remain a mystery !
7820 " Dinmore Manor " has been recorded as being the last " Manor " to work a scheduled service on the Cambrian network , running from Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth and back on the 13th. of November 1965 , although the preserved 7819 " Hinton Manor " was specially chosen for the " Cardigan Bay Express " special services run during the Summer of 1987 .
