78xx 75xxx 1960s Talerddig
The Manor still has the small tender which might help identify it.
Whichever " Manor " this is she's lost her front numberplate and nameplate so this must be a late date in the history of the class on the Cambrian , because the last one , in the form of 7820 " Dinmore Manor " is known to have worked the final scheduled services on the 13th . November , 1965 , running from Shrewsbury down to the coast at Aberystwyth and back to Shrewsbury later that same day returning with the York bound postal train .
Talerddig summit was some seven hundred feet from sea level , reached by Aberystwyth bound workings after a lengthy fifteen miles climb of varying grades , the steepest being a short 1 in 71 gradient , whilst eastbound and Welshpool bound locomotives faced a daunting 1 in 52 three mile section on a much steeper , but shorter haul to the summit .
Whichever way this pair are heading they seem to be running down the grade , both with steam shut off on the single line section of track .
