7803 1964-08-16 Swindon Works
7803 is waiting to enter the workshops for a Light Classified, its final overhaul before being withdrawn in 1965-04.
Still clearly showing her painted adornments to her front end , a characteristic of Machynllth shedded engines working the Cambrian Coast lines , 7803 is awaiting entry to the works having been towed there as a " dead engine " as her connecting rod tied to the footplating confirms.
The first 4-6-0 locomotives to work the Cambrian lines , and replacing the little " Dukedog " class , the " Manors " had been introduced initially to operate between Banbury and Swansea , the first twenty " Manors " being built from 1938 using parts from " 4300 " class " 2-6-0 's , whilst the final ten were , however , newly built engines.
The first to be condemned was 7809 " Childrey Manor " in 1963 , the last to remain in service being 7829 " Ramsbury Manor " , withdrawn in 1965 , but no less than six have been preserved.
