7816 7814 1961-07-29 Aberystwyth
Exiled from their earlier homes in the West country when their piloting duties over the South Devon banks between Plymouth and Newton Abbot came to an end in the late 1950s, both 7814 'Fringford Manor' and 7816 'Frilsham Manor' increased the number of the class allocated to Aberystwyth when they were sent to the former Cambrian depot.
The 'Manors' worked regularly northwards from Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury and when rostered on the 'Cambrian Coast Express' would work "out and back" daily, with just an hour at Shrewsbury in which to be turned, oiled and watered ready for the afternoon run back down to Aberystwyth. Their replacement on the former Cambrian system came in the form of Standard Class Four locomotives of the 75000 class , although the 'Manors' continued in use on freights to and from South Wales through Gloucester until the mid 'sixties.
