7812 5005 1954 Dainton

7812 5005 1954 Dainton

A delightful shot of Newton Abbot's 7812 ," Erlestoke Manor' assisting Cardiff Canton's 5005' Manorbier Castle' at the top of Dainton bank and about to enter the tunnel both heading down to Plymouth on a clear and sunny day. The load is clearly far too much for the' Castle' on its own and 7812 has been put on at Newton Abbot as was so often the case in order to assist over the banks between that location and Plymouth. The' Stop Board' on the up line is to require all unfitted freights to halt and pin down wagon brakes for the long and steep descent which lies ahead down to Aller Junction , just outside Newton Abbot station
