17391 1930s Dumfries

17391 1930s Dumfries

An ex-Caledonian Railway Dugald Drummond '294' or 'Jumbo' (LMS '2F') 0-6-0 No. 17391 has been pressed into what appears to be passenger service as it approaches Dumfries Station from the north in the 1930s. The first coach is a former LYR vehicle and has a boarded up door droplight making the door inoperable, so may be in departmental service and this is actually a PW train carrying workers back from site. It certainly looks like a rail worker peering out of the first door.

The train is on ex-Glasgow & South Western Railway metals and the lines diverging to Lockerbie can be seen above the train. 17391 was built at St. Rollox in July 1895 as CR No. 335 and was withdrawn in October 1950 still as LMS No. 17391.
