E3053 1960s Rugby
No.E3053 at Rugby was built by Metropolitan Vickers in January 1962 and designated ‘AL2’. It became No.82007 as ‘Class 82’ under TOPS but lasted only until July 1983, having been stored, withdrawn and reinstated in the previous eighteen months. The class of ten ‘AL2s’ was unique among the original five LM electric types because it had a separate underframe instead of integral construction and also Commonwealth cast steel rather than fabricated box-section bogies. The electrification wiring completed had been completed down to Rugby by November 1963, trial working began in early September 1964 and full working commenced at the end of the month.
