Electric No.E3055 at Nuneaton in the mid-1960s was the only one of the first generation LMR electrics to have diamond cross-arm pantographs instead of the single arm Stone-Faiveley pattern fitted to the other locomotives. It was the last of the ‘AL2’ class locomotives built in August 1961 at Beyer Peacock’s Gorton works for AEI (Metropolitan Vickers), and was stored for several months before entering traffic in April 1962. It suffered severe fire damage in September 1966 at Sandbach while working a Manchester-Cardiff train and was stored for several years at Bury before being officially withdrawn in September 1969. The overhead current was energised to Nuneaton in January 1964 and electrically hauled trains started in March, with thirty weekday trains worked to or from the station.
