‘Big Bertha’ in 1955 doing what it was designed to do. It had been given the new BR lined black in May 1950 in recognition of its mixed traffic banking duties. This was not applied to the Bromsgrove 'Jinty' 0-6-0Ts which retained their plain black livery. No.58100 would be withdrawn the following year after almost forty years continuous service on this single duty. Its tender was rebuilt from a MR 2,350 gallon tender and held 2,050 gallons of water and 4 tons of coal; the sides had been cut-down in 1926 to improve visibility when running tender first and to make coaling easier. The tender cab was fitted to provide protection for the footplatemen when returning light engine to Bromsgrove.
