North Eastern Railway Raven '4-6-2' (LNER 'A2'-1st.) class No. 2400. Built at Darlington in Dec. 1922 and withdrawn in Apr. 1937. Named 'City of Newcastle' by the LNER. This remarkable panorama was taken from York city walls on a very murky December day in 1922. It shows an exhibition in the original York 'Old' Station given as a valedictory gesture to the end of the North Eastern Railway. Also on show are the ill-fated Raven '2Co-2' Electric No. 13, a pair of Raven 4-4-2s and a 'BTP' 0-4-4 Tank. For those interested in such things the wagon in the right foreground is a LNWR 8T van dating from the 1880s featuring a sliding 'half door' roof - once a common feature allowing heavy loads to be 'craned in'. The line across the lower part of the image is an electric or phone cable, unedited for accuracy!
