NIR 53 1970 Whitehead
The NIR line to Larne just south of Whitehead looking north, NIR No 53 heads a loaded spoil train, it is probably No.4 at the rear. The date is early in 1970, probably January by the snow.
These 'Jeeps' were kept on after the end of all the rest of steam on the NI system in order to work these spoil trains. They ran from the quarry near Whitehead to the site of the construction of the NI M2 on the North West shore of Belfast Loch.
