Beyer-Garratt No.47989 on 7th January 1951 with a heavy Toton to Washwood Heath coal train has taken what were known as the slow lines via Whitacre Junction and having joined the Leicester line is approaching Water Orton. From March 1950 Garratts from Toton had begun working through to Westerleigh sidings near Bristol on an evening mineral train. Previously they had rarely penetrated west of Birmingham, usually only as far as Kings Norton, to return light immediately afterwards.
