GNR 842 1890s Boston
Stirling '322' series J4 (LNER J3) 0-6-0 No 842 in original condition as built in 12/1891. Note the cylinder dimensions painted on the buffer beam.
Steve Priestley gives us all the details; "It is taken on Boston loco depot alongside the original hand operated coaling stage which was eventually replaced with the coal hoist in the mid 1930s.
You can see the corner of the erecting shops to the rear left including the lamp on a wall bracket. This was known locally by the drivers as ‘green lamp side’ giving the all clear for locos to enter and leave the depot via the single line which you can see.
The photo is looking north towards Broadfield Crosssing followed by the station a short distance further along."
