6222 1946 Crewe

6222 1946 Crewe

Coronation Pacific No 6222 Queen Mary as de-streamlined in the post-war LMS livery at Crewe c1946.

Ian R Townend says "This was taken about May 1946 when 6222 appeared in a non standard form of the 1946 livery after destreamlining. It was the first to carry the new livery The footplate carries only a single straw line and there is no boiler or cylinder lining. Also the insignia have no inset maroon lining and are positioned and spaced differently from what became the norm. This version lasted only about 2 weeks before the footplate received an additional straw line and the cylinders were lined but the cabside and tender insignia remained.
