LMS Stanier 'Coronation' class 4-6-2 No. 6234 'Duchess of Abercorn'. Built at Crewe in August 1938 and withdrawn in January 1963 as BR No. 46234.

Even on a fairly dull day it must have been exciting to see a brand new 'Duchess' ready for release to traffic. Many observers felt that without deflectors was the best guise for these masterpieces. They were certainly impressive whatever your opinion!
