LMS Stanier 'Coronation' class 4-6-2 No. 6225 ' Duchess of Gloucester'. Built at Crewe in May 1938 and withdrawn in October 1964 as BR No. 46225. Ex-L&NWR Webb 'Coal Engine' class 0-6-0 No. 8588. Built at Crewe in March 1901 as L&NWR No. 552 and withdrawn in September 1947.

It is open to debate if this August 1938 photo was a happy coincidence or staged. I prefer the former because this was taken on a Sunday with few railway employees around able to arrange such a 'set piece'. The scene could easily attract the description of "dignity and impudence" however!
