6222 1937c Shrewsbury
Entering service from new in June of 1937 and looking so very impressive in this rare and interesting photograph 6222, Queen Mary was the third of the initial five Duchesses emerging from Crewe that Summer. This can only be Shrewsbury, with that unique water hose sited so as to permit engines on the platform and through roads to take water, a feature which lasted until the end of steam. Queen Mary is undoubtably on a Running In duty from Crewe, already turned and ready for her homeward run back to Crewe from here at Shrewsbury, the limit of the operations for London Midland and Scottish locomotives and will probably take forward an arrival from the West.
