46229 1957 Harrow and Wealdstone
I wonder whether any of the young enthusiasts or the young ladies on the seat seen here think about the dreadful events five years earlier than the date of this view , namely on the 8th. October of 1952 when sister engine to 46229 pictured here , namely 46242 " City of Glasgow " ran through red signals at this location heading in the same direction as this one at the head of the overnight sleeper from Perth and collided with a local Euston bound train from Tring headed by 42389.
As if that wasn't bad enough , the down 8 a.m. from Euston to Liverpool and Manchester , double headed by 45637 , " Windward Islands " and 46202 " Princess Anne " then hit the mass of wreckage within the station , bringing down part of the overbridge and there was sadly a heavy casualty toll .
It all looks so peaceful here in this photograph , such a contrast to the scene at this very spot just five years earlier.
