46220 1950 Brinklow
In BR blue with a "semi" smokebox
A splendid image of the first of the class , namely 46220 " Coronation " herself , allocated to Glasgow's Polmadie Depot at this period in time and some six years before a move to her final home at Crewe North in July of 1956 .
In the early ' fifties revised rosters for the Polmadie " Duchesses " were introduced in an efffort to increase their working mileages and to permit those Scottish based locomotves to work through from Glagow to Euston as their previous duties had really only taken them on passenger turns between Glasgow and Carlisle .
This view shows clearly the tapered smokebox top dating back to when the engine was in its streamlined form
