6254 1946 Stoke on Trent
LMS Coronation 4-6-2 No 6254 City of Stoke-on-Trent on show at Stoke on Trent in 1946.
This looked like the official naming ceremony to me however the loco is shown displaying City crest above the nameplate which were not peresent at the naming ceremony.
Replicas of the City crest were presented by the City of Stoke on Trent and fitted sometime after the naming ceremony which took place at Platform 3, Stoke on Trent on 20 September 1946.
More info from Staffordshire Sentinel newspaper - During the naming ceremony the Mayor said, “It is the intention of the city to ask the railway company to accept plates containing the City Arms to be carried by this locomotive. This will give the locomotive not only our name, but our crest and motto will be carried from one end of the country to the other.”
