Coronation 4-6-2 No 6227 Duchess of Devonshire recorded as with the Plymouth-Liverpool through carriage at Crewe in 1938.

However Peter Kerslake says "I think this is more likely the Plymouth to Glasgow through coach, the longest through coach in operaton which has come off the morning Liverpool and Manchester working from Plymouth here at Crewe with the engine at the far end having added it to 6227 ready to be coupled at the head of a working from Euston to Glasgow when it arrives here and for the onward run to Glasgow behind the 'Duchess'."
