On a Carlisle-Crewe

It's August , and the Summer Holidays , so there are no school uniforms about but the " spotters " are naturally out in force here at Preston , both on the platform and up on the footbridge because that's what they did in those carefree years .
Little did those youngsters know that " Duchess of Hamilton " would have a chequered second life following her withdrawal from Edge Hill the following February , being purchased for display at the Butlins Minehead Holiday Camp for ten years before being loaned by Mr . Butlin to the National Railway Museum at York from where it returned on the main line working Enthusiasts ' Specials from 1980 until 1985 .
Subsequently purchased by the Museum in 1987 , 46229 was treated to the full streamling at Tyseley in September of 2006 and is now back at York , resplendent in maroon livery
