Until 1952, No 52312 had been a resident of Bolton (26C) but then made a one way trip to Crewe and became a permanent works shunter. Seen here at the Works along with a 4F 0-6-0 (one of 44363/73/74 which were also Crewe Works shunters at that time) No 52312 remained in this role until withdrawn in September 1962.
