52515 1962-09-29 Darlington

On Saturday 29th September 1962, one of the all-time most 'unlikely to succeed' railtour combos, saw Sowerby Bridge MPD's 'pet' ex-L&Y Aspinall 0-6-0 No. 52515 paired with Patricroft's Fowler '4F' 0-6-0 No. 44408. The route was Sowerby Bridge to Doncaster then to Darlington and return via Leeds and had been organised by Halifax Railfans Club as the 'South Yorkshireman' railtour. Visits were arranged to both Doncaster 'Plant' and Darlington Works. The tour ran faultlessly, arriving back at Sowerby Bridge some eleven minutes ahead of schedule, a commendable achievement!
