69781 1955-04 Hull Springhead MPD

Ex-North Eastern Railway Worsdell/Raven 'Y' (LNER 'A7') class 4-6-2 Tank No. 69781, Built at Darlington in March 1911 as NER No. 1181 and withdrawn in November 1956. The 'A7s' were designed in the Worsdell era but built after Raven had become CME. Originally, their principal task was hauling heavy coal trains but in LNER ownership they were relegated to shunting in the larger marshalling yards. Their power was invaluable when propelling heavy wagons over the shunting hump. 69781 is seen at the ex-Hull & Barnsley MPD at Springhead in Hull in April 1955.
