The bedroom windows of the adjacent terrace houses must have afforded excellent views (wanted or not!) of the comings and goings at Darlington Bank Top Station. Ex-North Eastern Railway Raven/Gresley 'A8' Tank 69856 allocated to West Auckland, stands oozing steam at the north end of the station. The loco had originally been built as a 'H1' class 4-4-4 Tank but was rebuilt as a 4-6-2 in 1934 to improve adhesion. Photo dated Friday 10th August 1956.
