The 45 LNER Gresley 'A8' 4-6-2 Tanks started their lives as North Eastern Railway 'H1' 4-4-4 Tanks designed by Sir Vincent Raven. They were all rebuilt as 'A8s' in the 1930s by Gresley as 4-6-2s to improve their adhesion. 69855 is in ex-works condition in the yard at Darlington MPD on Sunday 5th July 1953.
